On 12 October Anne-Sophie Mutter visited the publishing house accompanied by the Friends of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation e.V. The visitors were treated to a full and varied programme of events: Dr. Norbert Gertsch, deputy managing director, gave a thought-provoking talk on the life of Günter Henle, the history of the publishing house and the question “What is an Urtext edition?”

Hans Kühner, umringt von ZuschauernAfterwards Hans Kühner, one of the last music engravers in the world, demonstrated his craft to the enthusiasm of the guests. He showed them the art of metal plate engraving at his original desk that is now displayed at the small museum in the publishing house.

And much to the delight of the guests, who numbered over seventy, the TV entertainer and cabaret artist Harald Schmidt gave a trenchant insight into his own musical biography. Anne-Sophie Mutter brought the varied programme to a fitting close with a rendition of Gershwin’s “Summertime”, accompanied on the piano by Harald Schmidt. What an honour!

The Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation supports young, talented string soloists worldwide.
