On June 29, 2018 Professor Franz Beyer died at the age of 96 years. He was a great musician and a wonderful person who held close ties to G. Henle Verlag for decades as a friend and author. Franz had a lifelong career as viola player (among other things he was a member of the legendary Max Strub String Quartet), he was a professor in Munich, a profound connoisseur of the entire repertoire of classical music, especially of all of Mozart’s compositions.

Franz edited the Henle Urtext edition of Max Reger’s suites for viola solo which serve as reference works for musicians. He wrote cadenzas for all three of Joseph Haydn’s violin concertos. He also co-edited Mozart’s works and fragments for two pianos – the signee’s first Urtext edition ever – in collaboration with Franz Beyer.

Prof. Franz Beyer lives on in his music editions. We will continue to honour his memory.
