Fundraising for Schumann sketch

In June 1847 Robert Schumann sketched his Piano Trio op. 43 with a great deal of enthusiasm and love; three months later he presented it to his wife Clara for her birthday.

Robert’s new work was premiered that very evening and Clara noted enthusiastically in her diary,

“It sounds as if written by someone from whom we can expect a great deal, so youthful and strong, yet so expertly executed!”

The Saxon State and University Library Dresden has been able to acquire this sketch for the trio. Yet the 26-page manuscript can only be made accessible to the public if everyone makes a concerted effort to help.

G. Henle Publishers has already donated money to this end. We would like to draw the attention of all musicians, especially lovers of Schumann, to the information provided by the library in Saxony.
