On 1 January 2024 there was a management change at G. Henle Publishers: Dr. Wolf-Dieter Seiffert retired on 31 December 2023 after spending over thirty years at the publishing house, first as an editor, then taking over as CEO in 2000. As of 1 January 2024, the Executive Board of the Günter Henle Foundation has appointed former Deputy Managing Director, Dr. Norbert Gertsch, as his successor.
Dr. Norbert Gertsch, born in 1967 in Rheinkamp/Moers, studied piano solo at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and read musicology and philosophy at the Paris Lodron University in Salzburg and the Ruperto Carola University Heidelberg on a scholarship from the “Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes”. In 1996 he wrote his doctoral thesis on Ludwig van Beethoven’s Missa solemnis.
The following year, he joined G. Henle Publishers, initially as an editor for electronic publishing. In 2001 he became an editor in the Urtext editorial department at the publishing house. He was appointed Editor-in-Chief in 2003, and Deputy Managing Director and Head of Publishing in 2009. Gertsch has published numerous Urtext editions, including volumes for the new edition of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas, together with Murray Perahia. In addition, he is also co-editor of the Thematic-Bibliographical Catalogue of Beethoven’s Works and has been primarily responsible for the development of the Henle Library app.
