G. Henle Publishers: Seventy-Five Years
In the world of music, G. Henle Publishers stands for music edited and presented to the highest standards. The idea for this concept stemmed from Günter Henle, who was a diplomat, industrialist and politician, as well as a fantastic pianist. In 1948 he founded his publishing house, which today offers some 1500 editions from the Baroque era up to classical modernism. To mark the 75th anniversary of G. Henle Verlag, the history of the publishing house appears in print, published by Carl Hanser Verlag Munich. The book tells of the improvised beginnings, of the development of the programme and its international success, but also of great artists, such as Yehudi Menuhin and Rudolf Serkin, who were closely connected to the firm and its founder. Henle could not have imagined that one day even digital music for the tablet would be available under his name: but he would have been pleased with how his ideas remain alive today.

Henle celebrates its 75th birthday this year. To mark the occasion, Hanser Publishers has released the remarkable history of this esteemed publishing house written by Tobias Heyl. We tend to take for granted the many fine Urtext editions that come into our hands nowadays. … The term ‘Urtext’ is not the be-all and end-all, considering that new research and newly discovered manuscripts will lead to changes in the Urtext version. From printing press to the music-stand, this intriguing history of Henle, replete with many impressive photographs, is fitting tribute to Günter Henle and his remarkable achievements.
